The Image Decoding plugin has one job, but it can make for some helpful gains in your page load times. When enabled, it adds a decoding attribute to the elements of your site which can instruct the browser to start transferring image data while rendering the other page elements, instead of waiting until the base content in rendered. In practice, this can result in much better page performance, especially on posts that load a lot of images
